Problem with USB camera w/mic on SuSE 2.6 (snd_cs4236)
I'm trying to connect a USB camera to my SusSE 2.6 system-- which system has had no problems with my last two cameras-- but it chokes on this one.
% uname -a
Linux spanky 2.6.8-24-default #1 Wed Oct 6 09:16:23 UTC 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
% lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ca:2218 Ricoh Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
In messages I see:
Aug 17 08:08:49 spanky kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using address 2
Aug 17 08:08:49 spanky kernel: usb 1-1: Product: GR DIGITAL
Aug 17 08:08:49 spanky kernel: usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Ricoh Company Ltd.
Aug 17 08:08:49 spanky kernel: usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 2 choices
but eventually:
Aug 17 08:10:04 spanky kernel: snd_cs4231_lib: unsupported module, tainting kernel.
Aug 17 08:10:05 spanky kernel: snd_cs4236: unsupported module, tainting kernel.
Yes, this camera has a mic and can capture sound. There are also unhelpful error messages
from resmgr:
Aug 17 08:10:05 spanky lsusb: resmgr: server response code 500
Aug 17 08:10:06 spanky last message repeated 2 times
Aug 17 08:10:06 spanky lsusb: resmgr: server response code 501
etc. 500 is "general error" and 501 is "syntax error", neither of which codes helps at all.
I don't need the sound captured from this camera, just the images. Is there a way to avoid the sound portion (which seems to be the problem)?
Thanks...
