    suse i386

    my system has
    intel p4 2.4gz
    ram 256

    i am unable to find suse distro for i386.
    can i install x86_64.

    i installed rhel5 i386 working fine. but
    suse 11.3 i686 is not working so i am finding i386.

    No. The vast majority of Pentium 4 chips are 32-bit only. Unless you have a special chip with EM64T technology, your P4 will only run i386,i486,i586, or i686.

    When you say SuSE 11.3 "is not working," what do you mean exactly? SuSE is a pretty heavy distribution and I wouldn't recommend trying to run it on only 256MB of RAM. In fact, most modern full-size distributions won't run on that amount.

    If you're unable to upgrade your RAM (1-3GB is average these days) then I'd suggest trying a new, but lighter weight distribution such as Puppy Linux, or Damn Small Linux.

    You are going to need to upgrade your RAM count as was indicated to you in your similar thread if you want to run SUSE 11.3 and have it work properly:

    256 MB is not enough RAM to run any of the more recent heavier distros in a reasonable manner.

    but rhel5 is running very fine.
    and thatswhy i am finding suse i386.

    Your problem has nothing to do with the architecture of your distribution. You're still going to have trouble running SuSE on 256MB of RAM regardless. It's just not designed to work with that little resources.
