Help! My netbook won't install openSUSE 11.3!

    Hey all,

I have a Samsung NC-10, installed Win 7 on it and after about 3 months realised that the Intel Atom processor couldn't cope very well. I defected to linux but I can't get the damn thing to boot.

I downloaded the iso of openSUSE 11.3 and opened it with Daemon Tools Lite. In my first attempt, I copied and pasted the image using windows explorer onto an 8GB flash drive. I got a "Disk Error" message. (I did change the boot order so that the USB HDD had priority).

I got my dad in to help and he formatted the drive to FAT32 and used xcopy in CMD to put the iso image onto the disk.

Then I got the "Remove disks or other media. Press any key to restart" message. I'm annoyed now because I have spent my evenings doing this for the best part of 4 days.

    Thanks for your patience,

    noobi

    Grr...

SUSE image writer for windows won't find the iso image because it is only searching for .raw files.

How do I get it to search for .iso files?

    Cheers,

That site is pretty straight forward:

    5. Now simply drag the downloaded Live CD ISO file from the file manager, and drop it on the Imagewriter Window. Then click "Write". And in a minute or two you're done and ready to go!
Is it maybe defaulting to .raw? try clicking on the filetype option, it'll be there somewhere, and look for iso. Or all files.

I know my title admits I'm a noob but sheesh.

I can't even drag and drop the program is just a box with two lines, one says image, the other has found my memory stick.

There is no big box I can drop the image file into like in the article...

When I click on the image button, windows explorer only gives me the option of looking up .raw files and nothing else.

click on select, then in the dialog box, where it says filename type

    Code:
    *.iso
    that'll show iso files

Personally I'd use the dd program method. Yes you do actually need to type a fey things but the command line is your friend. Really
