    Printers and wine ?

    Folks.

I have linux in and running but alas my printers wont talk to my computer.
I have a BJC cannon and a HP 1200. They work fine on Win 98.
    Nothing on "SUSE" 9.1 personal.

    Any Ideas would be welcome.

    Second issue.

I was trying to down firefox and some windows programs a fella told me I needed WINE..well that is a fine idea but I don't think he means "Gallo's"
Is there a "linux" I could download that has this "wine" and "Firefox".

What, by the way is "wine"?

I can't really help with the printer.

As for firefox and wine. Well that is easier.

Wine is a windows emulator for linux. It makes it possible to run some windows applications. The more complex the application the less likely it will work though.

As for installing wine and firefox is not too hard. Both of them can be found at www.rpmfind.net. To install an RPM all you need to do is type "rpm -U filename" and press enter. Of course replace the filename with the file name of the rpm.

Hi for your printers you tried yast?If you did and nothing try kprinter or in a browser such as konqueror type
    Code:
    http://localhost:631
That is cups and try to configure your printers there. Also when finished make sure
    you run cups in startup.
All of the above as root of course
Q: what\'s tiny and yellow and very, very, dangerous?

    linux printers

SuSe was one of the many distros I've tried for which my printer didn't work. Often the smaller, simpler distros are fine, but I often can't print with the more complex ones. My advice is: before going to the trouble of downloading and installing a distro, go to the relevant forum and search for printer problems. This might save you a lot of aggro !

    Hi robertito !

This thread is around 6 years old. I would suggest you to post your suggestions in a bit recent threads.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
