    no sound from firefox?

    Dear Linux experts,

When I am in firefox, I do not get any sound when playing embedded videoes (like YouTube). But, I do get sound when playing videoes using vlc or when starting up or shutting KDE.

What do I have to do to get sound in firefox?

    Thanks!

Did you install it through Yast or manually? Also are you running a 64-bit openSUSE?

    Cheers!

I actually cannot remember when/how I installed adobe flash. But, I saw flash checked under Yast. So, I know it is installed.

Okay....make sure if you have the videolan repository added that you disable it.

Add the packman repository.....then in your terminal do the following as root:

    Code:
    zypper in flash-player
and if you are running a 64-bit distro

    Code:
    zypper in nspluginwrapper
    Cheers!

    Hi, eTech97,

I already had videolan in my repository and "disabled".

When I typed "zypper in flash-player" and "zypper in nspluginwrapper",

    I got
    ------------------------------------------
    huwei:~ # zypper in flash-player
    Retrieving repository 'packman' metadata [done]
    Building repository 'packman' cache [done]
    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    'flash-player' is already installed.
No update candidate for 'flash-player-10.1.85.3-0.1.1.i586'. The highest available version is already installed.
    Resolving package dependencies...

    Nothing to do.
    huwei:~ # zypper in nspluginwrapper
    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    'nspluginwrapper' is already installed.
No update candidate for 'nspluginwrapper-1.3.0-1.14.x86_64'. The highest available version is already installed.
    Resolving package dependencies...

    Nothing to do.
    huwei:~ # exit
    exit
    phsieh@huwei:~/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.7.x>
    -------------------------------------------------------

It looks like I already had these installed. Still no sound from firefox.

This happens all the time for me. In no particular order.

Flash and Skype are the main culprits.

    1) In Yast delete and reinstall Sound card (Nvidia 7150) Intel HDA
    2) Restart Firefox
    3) If you recently installed a Firefox update remove and reinstall flash.
    4) Restart openSuSE.

x86-64 openSuSE using all packman libraries and i586 Firefox with 32 bit libraries, 32 bit java (sun) etc. Big clue make sure Firefox finds the plug ins. While your mileage may vary using i586 Firefox and Thunderbird are almost mandatory.

    Good Luck.

    Hi, gogalthorp,

Yap, PCM was set to 0. After re-set it to 95, I am getting sound from firefox (finally!).

Thanks! Hopefully this setting will stick.
