K3b burning should work.
Also nero-linux does it, with much more options.
You have to find and install the last one.

I'm not sure k3b does work, though I rarely use it so I could be wrong.
In general, to create a DVD that can be played by a normal machine, you need something that can create the appropriate DVD structure.
Here are some options. Not sure if they all can convert avi or not, but I believe devede does. I assume they are in the opensuse repos, though you may need to enable the packman repository.

Well, that depends of what kind of DVD-player you have.
Most DVD-players today can play a multitude of media files including avi mp4 mp3 jpg etc.
That you can find in your manual or specs.
Even DVD-players today have an USB and MS/SD/MMC slot.
So you can play files from a USB stick or memory-card.
I have also used rewritable DVDs to play say avi files.
And that worked fine.
Although sometimes there seem to be files whose codecs aren't exactly right.
So in most cases it isn't necessary to contvert to the DVD format.

DeVeDe is what you're looking for. Or other programs like it.
