    openSuSE installation

    Hello all,

    I installed openSuSE 11.2 sometime ago in a COMPAQ Presario CQ60-419WM laptop (the ones that Wal-mart sold for $300 about a year-and-a-half ago. I installed the 64-bit version because I saw that the processor could support that (perhaps that was not a good idea).

    I have some problems that seem related to not having the necessary drivers. My wireless has never worked and my display is far from what I would like it to be (the response is slow, if a drag a window, its motion is jerky, if I scroll down in a browser window, the motion is wavy). The look and feel is very different from what I get at work and I do not know how to fix it.

    I read a post in this forum where it was advised that one should run some commands to find out certain information about the configuration. I paste some of that below. I apologize up front as some of the outputs are long. If that is not considered appropriate let me know and I will edit this posting.

    Any help would be appreciated, I use linux a lot at work, but I am not very familiar with setting it up.

    Did you install the NVIDIA driver?

    openSUSE Graphic Card Practical Theory Guide for Users

    Did you go into Yast and set up the wireless? If so which method?

    Thanks for your reply. I don't think I installed the NVIDIA driver, I will check the link and see how that works. I did go into Yast and tried a couple of different options for setting up the wireless, I do not recall the names right now (don't have that laptop with me), but nothing helped.

    If you hae not installe the NVIDIA driver you will see a qunatum leap when you do.

    You may need firm ware for that wirless card
