Create a disk image
Ok, so I have installed openSUSE 11.3 on my Lenovo Thinkpad T61p, setup the wireless adapter (why is this so difficult?) and installed a few applications. I do like the look of openSUSE but would like to check out a few other flavours. With my Windows 7 (can I say that here?) machines I can create a system image and a system restore CD with a fair amount of ease. Is there a similar process available for Linux?
thanks in advance
Scott

Hello and welcome to the forums!
Clonezilla is a popular imaging application for Linux. It's worked great for me all the times that I've used it, although I personally prefer using FSArchiver.oz

Thanks for your reply - I'll have a look at both - do they have an option to boot from a CD/DVD/USB and then restore the partition?
Edit: I suppose I should have checked the site first
Anyway, image is created - time to test it out - if you don't hear from me for a while then it didn't work

Well I made it back. Restored the image and restarted.
Many thanks for your prompt assistance.
Edit: Well just did the real acid test - installed OSX (as a test) - keyboard not recognised; restarted and restored with Clonezilla - very happy - I wonder if I can use this with my Windows machines?Last edited by mitasol; 12-23-2010 at 06:58 AM.

Yes you are just making an image of the raw partitions. It is immaterial what data is on them or how they are formated.
