I realize this is an old thread, but I'm hoping someone will answer my question.

While trying to Install firefox 3.5.16 out of a tar.bz2, I downloaded the tar, and unpacked it, and moved the unpacked folder to my user folder (caleb), but when I cd to the folder and try './configure' but I get a bash saying there is no such file or directory.

You may be wondering why I'm trying to downgrade to 3.5 rather than upgrade to the FF 4 beta, this is because when I run any FF on my laptop later than 3.5.16 my computer decides that its OK to only display images and no text or links, so I would really appreciate it if someone could lead me in the right direction.

I currently have to double click and run my shell command file in ~/firefox in order to access my browser, this is a real pain, I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me what (probably simple) mistake I'm making or maybe point me in a direction where I could learn how to write a simple command file that would run the shell command so that I can put it in my docky, I would keep the shell command on my desktop, but I have desktop OCD, and go nuts if I have anything on my desktop besides my windows, launcher panel and my docky.

    Thank you,
    Caleb
