    Use of CD/DVD reader/writer

    Hallo,
this is an attempt to get help for problems I was unable to solve. Looks like I have books enough, but never find an answer to a practical question.
I'm using SUSE and ungraded a couple of days ago to 11.3. With the introduction of 10.0 - I'm unable to use DVD's or CD's - they are just not recognized.

The light blinks for a couple of seconds - but the device does not show up.

HOWEVER - when I put the ISO DVD on, it works.

I saved the SUSE upgrade to my files. I wanted to try one more time to make the upgrade using my DVD drive - I launched Kb3 and guess what - the burner recognized the blank DVD after I had chosen the ISO file. The rest was routine. I had hoped that the new version would heal the problem. But no - no reading and writing - (no medium found).
I might add I have tried all three of my other burners - same result.
I'm very grateful for any suggestions. Thank you for reading this message.

This has been going on since 10.0? That's been out of support for three years, why are you just posting this now?

Have you tried testing these disks on other machines? Burning on cheap media or at high speeds can result in media that can't be read on all disk drives. There can also be issues if the laser on one drive is just slightly off center.

Were they finalized? If they were burned in Windows Explorer, they probably weren't finalized and won't be read in a Linux system. If this is the case, you can try finalizing them in Windows.
