    Port issues?

Hello there linux folk! I am a recent convert from windows, although i used linux years ago, i have forgotten most everything. I am trying to set up my computer as a server for things like minecraft and ventrilo. This is not a question about those programs however. What i do have issues with is that I cannot get anybody (myself included) to connect to the servers I set up. I think it has to do with my ports not forwarding properly, or the computer using ipv6 instead of ipv4 for some strange reason. I say this because I KNOW I set up the port forwarding in my routers setting correctly, but when i browse to a port checking tool, it says they are not. How can I get people to connect to my servers, which seem to be running and functioning? Everything else has gone flawlessly and beautifully. I tried asking similar questions on their respective forums, but not much help has been given. Thanks for any help!

Assuming you are correct that you've forwarded the ports properly in your router, it could be an issue with your linux box permissions.

Check out the files /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny, perhaps the problem lies there.

Otherwise, you'll need to give more information about your networking setup.
