Suse Blank Screen
Hi Guys/Girls,
I'm newbie to this forum and also to Linux.
Recently I've installed SUSE on my machine and started installing some programs that I needed. I've followed the installation and dependencies while installing but when installing gettext and zlib (I'm not sure which caused the problem), after restarting the system I get screen with only background image on it, no login screen or start menu, nothing . I have restored the installation once then it worked fine, then again installed those 2 programs and got same blank screen.
Can anyone help me? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong - cause the installation of gettext and zlib were successful but I'm crashing the SUSE .
Thanks,
sirenka

I doubt that it's zlib and gettext that are causing the problem. Strange coincidence, though. Which desktop are you using (Gnome, KDE)?

Turn off the desktop effects if you haven't already. Kill Naytilus using
sudo killall nautilus
Gnome should start a new session. If this doesn't repopulate your desktop, see what happens if you log into a different user account (not root).

I've tried using
sudo killall nautilus
but it gives me nautilus: no process found
Also I've tried using rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity
but still same thing, it not solves my problem.
I don't know what else to do.
thanks.
