suse server
Hi,
I have read that I need to disable dhcp on my sky router to enable the server that I am setting up to act as the dhcp server?
Is this correct and if so - do I have to put any static values into linux?
secondly, is suse linux es capable of being run as a firewall in the true sense and as a way of hosting my own websites. I am aware that my home pc (vista 64bit ultimate) has been hacked and I want to make sure that it does not happen again.
I am a complete linux newbie - so pointing me in the right direction with a big stick is required.

Generally a server needs a static ip address. so you are better disabling the sky dhcp and setting the server with a static address and as the dhcp server.
You then configure the sky router ip address as gateway.
Yes, like all distros just about. it is, but you need to do a bit of learning to be able to do it correctly.
You are probably better off getting an old pc (old pentiumI or II) and setting it up as a dedicated firewall using one of the dedicated linux firewall distros. (Smoothwall and DansGuardian spring to mind).
I believe a server is a server and a workstation is a workstation and your firewall should be only a firewall and run nothing else.
All the isp router firewalls are pretty basic and don't allow for changing threats or configurability.
