Activation of Libre Office is delayed

When I get into Libre Office the page shows up but, there a delay of almost 30-45 seconds before the Libre Office can be used? During the 30 -45 seconds the cursor simply freezed. This happens irrespective whether I am starting a new file or going back to any existing file. What can be the issue?

I just started for the very first time in my life LibreOffice (I used a few times a year OO before)
It all came up fast and instant use
my guess is that you may have too little RAM or too slow RAM or both

a very long time ago - may be 10-12 years - such behavior as you have was common when RAM was too small (then below 80MB).

    here I have 8GB DDR3 RAM on a i7 quad core

to know more or find your precise cause, may be you need to provide more HW facts about type of RAM (DDR2/DDR3) and size of RAM as well as CPU you have.
large office applications quiet commonly run much better with fast/large RAM

check top in your console to see system resources consumed by LO

Thanks Hans51, I will double check the tech specs of my HP mini 2131 - especially wrt the RAM etc. I think you nailed the problem I posed, right on. Yes, my HP mini comes with ATOM processor. I will have to transfer some of the 'heavy files' on my HD to my desk top PC, to avoid this problem. I am using this HP mini for the simple things ( checking e mail and doing some online transactions) while on the move.
    Thanks for your response
