I don't know how to get avermedia hybrid volar MAX working on opensuse 12.1. Opensuse sees the hardware but I cant get it running in any software, I installed the the linux software from avermedia's website for the product but the volar max does not recognize my kernel, my kernel is 3.3. volar is looking for a 2.6 kernel . it ends installation saying cant find kernel 2.6.
here is info from another driver i tried to install

There are MAJOR differences between 2.6 and 3.x kernels. Either you need to downgrade your system to use a 2.6 kernel, or you need to wait until the application supports 3.x kernels (which may be quite a while)...
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
