    help wiht .tar.gz install

    hello all. i'm still learning this linux thing and I did some research on how to install .tar.gz files. I did the first thing which was zypper in filename.tar.gz and that returned no errors. but when i tryed to do ./configure, I got this error:
    bash: ./configure: No such file or directory

    so not sure where I went wrong. any suggestions?

    o I supposed I should tell you what im using suse 12.2 KDE and im trying to install proftpd

    Hello and Welcome!
    Try this, using either su or sudo as needed:
    zypper install proftpd
    Typically, you'll want to use your package manager to install software. See here or here for some information on that.
