    Akonadi server won't start


    Using OpenSUSE 12.2 on an HP elitebook 8570w.

    I encountered this problem as a result of trying to sync my kontact with google calendar.

    First, I was unable to even start kontact. I received an error message: "The Akonadi personal information management service is not operational."
    I found the following fix:

    If you want to remove your entire Akonadi configuration, remove the following:
    ~/.local/share/akonadi/
    ~/.config/akonadi/
    ~/.kde4/share/config/akonadi*

    Being a newbie, I hesitated a while, trying other solutions. Eventually I did open the terminal and used the "rm" command for each of the above lines. The first two generated a message "this is a directory", the third did appear to delete correctly. However this didn't fix it.

    I ultimately, using YAST, uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Kontact program. This worked, as far as getting the calendar, and other functions to open, but the Akonadi server is still not running.

    I then tried to connect with the google calendar, by downloading the google data package (akonadi-kde-resource-googledata), I was supposed to select an Akonadi resource in Kontact and add the google calendar. The problem is, the Akonadi option does not appear.

    I suspect this has something to do with the Akonadi server not running. When I went to start it, I received the following message:

    For totally unrelated reasons, I will be returning this new computer shortly. I'll return to this post, if I have the same problem on the exchange I get.

    The problem still remains. I have a new computer, which immediately after install and software updates, is unable to start the Kontacts programs. I believe it is because the Akonadi server is not operational.

    I found this fix after googling the message, but am unsure exactly how to make this happen:
