The Opensuse Bootloader options are many and confusing. In the yast2 Installation Settings window during the installation, there are four options and if you click on the Booting heading you get a new window Boot Loader Settings which in turn has two tabs, Section Management and Boot Loader Installation each of which also has a number of options. When I install it to test a version, I usually end up installing it to the mbr even though I don't want to. Might be carelessness on my part or not being familiar from not using it but that is why I always keep a CD of my primary installation which is not Opensuse. So you are not the only one who has problems with their bootloader.

Glad you got it working.
