    Installing Evolution on SuSE 9.2



    Hello,

    I wanted to install Evolution on my SuSE box, but it won't work and gives me weird errors when I try to select it in YaST. Here are the dependencies it needs (which I can't find in the installation source...which in turn is strange because I'm installing Evolution from the installation media):

    BTW, I don't have the full Gnome desktop installed, so could this be causing this problem. In a perfect world, I would like to simply run Xfce and just get rid of KDE and Gnome but when I first installed Linux I kept KDE around for some apps and didn't bother with Gnome because I have limited hard drive space as it is.

    I would try and download the depenacies from somware like www.rpmfind.net

    I know this is anoying but it might be worth it

    this is very strange. i just installed suse 9.2 pro (two days ago), and no such request from yast...
    ?try reinstall??

    I checked out those websites and apparantly all of those dependencies belong to mozilla. So then I went back into YaST and messed around with the different mozilla packages. In order to install Evolution you have to either install the MozillaFirefox or Mozilla package to take care of the dependencies. So, I just went ahead and installed the Mozilla package since I already have a more recent version of Firefox installed.

    Now that Novell is controlling Ximian, they really should think about making Evolution less reliant on other packages...because I now have three browsers on my computer-Konqueror, Mozilla, and Firefox... no one should be forced to install Mozilla to run an email client, that's way too M$-ish. :P
