    skype wont' open

Hi, I installed Skype on my Ubuntu 16.04 system, using the 32 bit Linux deb download from the Skype website. The only way I can get to the Skype icon to start it is to go into "search your computer". When I double click it, it shows up in the program bar on the left, and pulses, but never starts, and then disappears from the bar again. Can anyone tell my how to get it open? Thank you much

I can be found either 40 miles west of Chicago, in Chicago, or in a galaxy far, far away.
I installed Skype from my Synaptic package manager on Mint (Ubuntu+). Works great for me. I have installed the icon on the menu bar. One click, and it works!
