    Client and server are linux operating system, the use of openssh5.1 version.

    Sftp client suddenly failed to login in the server, and it tips
    Couldn't read packet: Connection reset by peer.

    1.Use the debug log prompt for the -vvv client,as following
    debug1: Sending subsystem: sftp
    debug1: client_input_channel_req: channel 0 rtype exit-status reply 0
    debug1: client_input_channel_req: channel 0 rtype eow openssh.com reply 0
    debug2: channel 0: rcvd eow
    debug2: channel 0: close_read
    debug2: channel 0: input open -> closed
    debug2: channel 0: rcvd eof
    debug2: channel 0: output open -> drain
    debug2: channel 0: obuf empty
    debug2: channel 0: close_write
    debug2: channel 0: output drain -> closed
    debug2: channel 0: rcvd close
    debug3: channel 0: will not send data after close
    debug2: channel 0: almost dead
    debug2: channel 0: gc: notify user
    debug2: channel 0: gc: user detached
    debug2: channel 0: send close
    debug2: channel 0: is dead
    debug2: channel 0: garbage collecting
    debug1: channel 0: free: client-session, nchannels 1
    debug3: channel 0: status: The following connections are open:
    #0 client-session (xxxxxxxxx)

    debug3: channel 0: close_fds r -1 w -1 e 6 c -1
    debug1: Exit status 1
    Couldn't read packet: Connection reset by peer

    2.The server only prints the following
    sshd[21892]: Accepted password for abc from 10.10.10.10 port 32332 ssh2
    sshd[21894]: subsystem request for sftp
    sshd[21894]: Received disconnect from 10.10.10.10: 11: The user disconnected the application

    3.But ssh can be logged in successfully.

    4.After running the following command in the server, the client can sftp ok.
    service sshd restart

    These are not uncommon problems with secure ftp and shells. Usually it is due to a momentary drop in the connection. Your solution to restart the service on the server was exactly the correct thing to do. This happens on occasion. Only start looking for other problems if the occurances become much more frequent.
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
