    Reading data from a DVD

    Hello I am new to Linux so you will have to bare with me

    I am able to play audio cd's but i am un-able too or i dont know how to read data from a dvd, that has backup files on it such as pictures, music etc. When I click the appropiate DVD Rom in My Computer it just gives me an error. i think its something to doing with mounting. i am using suse 9.2 pro.

    Any ideas how to fix it?

    THanks in advance

    It might be a problem with permisions (but I don't think so) try in a termianl:
    Code:
    su
    rootpassword
    chmod 444 /mnt/dvdrecorder
    if that don't work try mounting than unmounting the drive with
    Code:
    su
    rootpassword
    umount /mnt/dvdrecorder
    mount /dev/*** /mnt/dvdrecorder
    replace /dev/*** with the device it is in /dev/ directory

    If that dosn't work, can you post the contents of your /etc/fstab?

    Its not a totale waste of time, you've had a chance to learn a few commands and I've had a chance to do some problem thinking (and escaping my english coursework );
