Suse installation Problem

I'm a compete newbie to Linux, so please bear with me.

I have a Win XP machine which is an AMD64 3200+ with 1GB of RAM, AV8 Abit MB and an Nvida Ti4200 128MB GC and a 160GB SATA HD. The HD has Three partitions with NTFS for Win XP and has around 30GB unpartitoned free space..

Within this free space I decided I would use it for an installation of Linux so i can learn it. So far, the learning isn't gogin to well as I'm already stuck!

I'm trying to install Suse Linux Desktop which I have on 3 CD's. Upon boot up I receive the Suse loading screen and given a menu for installation. The first problem I had was corruption on the screen once the installation started. I just had a mess of colours and it was totally unreadable.

After some trail and error I found that text version of the install and all went well until the installation said that No hard Disk could be found.

I've looked on Abit's web site but can find no drivers for Linux for my SATA drive, as I guess this might be the problem. God knows why the graphics isn't showing correctly on a normal installation either? Can someone help me or point me in the right direction. Thanks

I'd recommend you not use Novell Linux Desktop, and instead install 9.2 Pro. It's available for download, link is in this thread.

I'm pretty positive (since I have a very similar system to yours) that 9.2 Pro will have no trouble installing and you won't need any special drivers for the SATA drive.
