    No sound after installing Linux

    I`m a total noob to linux and I cannot get any sound to work within the operating system that I installed today. I have a SB Audigy 2 sound card and the operating system recognised it OK but there is definatley no sound comming out either when I play an MP3 or use the sound test. The card works fine under windows. Any suggestions?

    I read that but it didn`t make a lot of sense to me, I will have to learn a bit more about the OS I suppose.

    It took me a couple of days just playing with Linux and getting used to it before I tried to figure out how to get my sound working..
    click the green icon lower left->multimedia->volume control->kmix
    Play with the mixer settings.. your sound card should be mentioned along the bottom of the window..
    Open a terminal window and type "su" without quotes..
    enter root password..
    type: alsamixer and play with that..
    it will scroll to the right, raise levels, unmute with the "m" key..
    If you get it working, use the commandline from a terminal to enter
    alsactl store..
    use alsactl restore.. after a reboot..
    or open kmix again.. click settings->configure kmix->uncheck restore volume settings..
    kmix overides alsamixer on a reboot and messes with its' settings..
    If (exoskeleton || (green && wiggles)) eat_it();
