    The only problem for newbies is if the program has all kinds of dependencies on other programs, the configure will fail and they don't always tell the exact problem. An RPM installed through YaST will resolve most of them for you or tell you which additional programs you need.

    That's why i liked yast so much when i was begining with linux.... jus had a LOAD of apps (everything i needed to get started and more) and sorted all the dependencies for me
