First it seems as though your bootloader was not installed (either GRUB or LILO). I know that if you boot off the CDs in Mandrivia (Mandrake) with teh rescue option it offers to install the boot loader. Not sure about SuSE 9.2 though, try it.

Most advice I have heard is to install Windows and then Linux for this very reason. I found a HOW-TO for Gentoo http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install...s_after_Gentoo but it seems really technical.

You cannot install any operating system through fdisk. It is a disk partitioning program. What exactly did you do when you tried to install Linux?

He's actually trying to reinstall Windows and isn't getting very far. The Linux distro is long gone. It appears there's a hardware setting that the Windows Installation CD doesn't like. I would suggest going through the BIOS and making sure everything is set properly.

AHA! Sorry, misread that. If you've fdisked your harddrive and reinstalled MS Windows, but still get the "Missing Operating System" error, you might try booting from your MS Windows CD, going into a recovery console and typing FIXMBR.

I think he's trying to reload 98. Already had him do FDISK/MBR. Apparently the system is hanging during the hardware check during the install process.

Is there some side conversation going on here that I'm not aware of?

    no suffering

man just put windows bootable cd and if you partitioned your hard disk acc. to your need mean to install windows now then just install it

fdisk is used to partition hard NOT FOR INSTALLING ANY OS ..

so if you are getting any other then tell
:: i dont know even a single word of linux ::
