intel i810 sound configures but won't make sounds

    Hello,

I have a mobo which has intel i810 intergrated sound and graphics. I installed suse 9. The card configured with no errors but won't make a sound at all. I have tried reconfiguration and have also removed a network card temporarily that was acting strangely. (even when this card wasn't connected to a network, when you played a test sound the activity LED on this card would switch on and then turn off again when the sound stoped. Weird.)

I have two suggestions that might help to at least narrow it down.
    1) Check and see if there is an irq or i/o conflict. You can check this by using the commands:
    Code:
     hwinfo --sound
    and
    Code:
     hwinfo --netcard
and look closely at these settings.

You may also want to see if you get any sound using the kaffeine cd player. If you don't have a sound cable connected up kaffeine will still produce sound while many others will not. You may need to install the kaffeine package which does come with SUSE 9.2 though it is not installed.

Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

    /lib/modules/2.4.21-183-default/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o: insmod i810_audio failed

any more clues in that lot?

    Thanks.

Perhaps you should upgrade your kernal to 2.6.

Are you using SUSE 9 per your first post?

Then I would sure recommend that you dl the 9.2 Professional with is free and a solid performer. If you don't have broadband you can get the 9.3 eval instead though the full 9.2 would be the way to go.
