Constant SuSE networking troubles! > SOLVED

I just installed suse 9.3 and yet again the internet will not work; same with 9.1. I use dhcp with a Via Rhine II network card (that has been configured), and nothing works. In yast2 my network card has been configured as the Rhine, my "DSL" has not been configured, I do not have a modem. I have written myself a /etc/resolv.conf but that doesn't seem to help at all. I did actually try to configure the DSL settings by using the eternet card and saying my provider was "SBC Global" and I gave it my username and pw for SuSE, still nothing. I have had a much easier time configuring my network in Gentoo! I am at my wits end here, I got rid of Windows for SuSE because I heard that I could manage my iPod with SuSE. I have never had networking troubles in any distro except for SuSE, odd isn't it?

Can't I just use my Via Rhine card to get going? Must I configure DSL? How do I configure DSL correctly? I am at my wits end here and SuSE is about to be replaced with Fedora...

Wish I could help -- I have a similar problem.

On install, I had everyhting configured using DHCP. I'm on a LAN with two macs, and they have no difficulty. However, I can't even get a connection with localhost!

OK, thanks dave. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has the problem then.. I'm just glad I didn't pay $90 for it

    Back to Google.

EDIT: Hey what about a dhcp client like dhcpcd? I had to use dhcpcd in Gentoo to get it to work.

    UPDATE

I loaded dhcpcd with "/sbin/dhcpcd" and everything loaded just fine but the internet is still down

The only thing I can ping is 127.0.0.1, and nothing else. I think god hates me and my Via Rhine II.

EDIT: WHOOO, dhcpcd did work - just needed to reboot my pc.
