Random reboot...? Azureus the culprit?
My compy has started to randomly reboot. I'm using the free download Suse i386, and I'm fairly new at this Linux stuff, so bear with my ignorance.
It used to freeze with inactivity, so I took off the powersaving stuff in both the BIOS and kpowersave.
I don't think it's an over heating problem, since it tends to reboot at moments of inactivity, not counting running processes like my bittorrent downloader, Azureus and Opera, and I've got a really nice ventilation setup. <3
I suspect it's something to do with power saving, but to my knowledge, I've turned it all off. But, I could be completely on the wrong track.
I'm looking at the system log now in an attempt to figure out what triggered these reboots, since I just experienced another reboot for the second time today..and..I was wondering if I could get a little help deciphering it.
This is some of the log before the 'restart' command which I did not initiate. I'm not sure what part I should post here...

Does the machine dual-boot with windows (or any other OS)?? If so, does this happen with windows (or the other OS) as well?? You might be having hardware problems, but the answer to this question would tell us.

My experience with random reboots has been usually due to excessive power consumption and/or a flakey PSU. These random reboots could occur at any time--usually during periods of relative inactivity simply because I tend to leave my computers on.
I've found that overheating tends to cause the computer to hang, but not actually reboot. Usually.
Its been a long time since I've suffered any random reboots. It stopped when I instituted a policy of only one hard drive per computer.Isaac Kuo, ICQ 29055726 or Yahoo mechdan

Take your pc off the network for awhile and see if the reboots still occur.
Your kernel messages you've posted are puzzling. You are getting a ton of requests from an IP on a private network which SuSEfirewall2 is dropping.
So if you take it off the network and it still reboots itself, I would say flaky hardware may be to blame. If you take it off the network and it stops rebooting itself, well... we can take it from there.

My main harddrive is partitioned, with Windows files, but it's not a dual system. Does the number of harddrives really cause problems? I've only got two, one and a half being windows...
I'm on a LAN for access, so that may be what the kernel messages are about.
I've actually got my computer running through a step-down transformer, since it's all US hardware in London..could that have anything to do with excessive power consumption?
I'll take it off the network now, (Just unplugging it'll do the trick, right?) and letcha know in a day or two if it doesn't reboot.
Thanks for the support, all! <3 <3
- 08-10-2005 #6What's the power rating of the transformer and what all is powered off of it?

Okay, the compy ran fine with the network cable unplugged until I left it over night- I wandered off at about 1 am, and the system log shows it was all good until about 4..
Here's what it was doin' pre-four in the morning..

One odd thing about this boot is that it failed to load the log-in screen and whatnot, and just gave me a terminal directly from the boot-up info.
Looking at this..I think there may be a lot of problems with my poor computer...
But on the powersaving error it gives me, kpowersave does not load on startup, so I don't think it's even running. I could be wrong.
Any hints?

Stepping down to 110v output from 240v input. I changed that out yesterday when I mentioned it, to narrow down the problems. The tower and the monitor are both running off 240v.

Three freezes and one random reboot today, and YAST won't load up the system log for me anymore..though I think that may have to do with it being spammed by whatever IP error it was getting before, making the file oversized.
The freezes occured whilst running Konqueror, Azureus, and an .avi file in XINE reading from a DVD drive. Am I overloading? It managed multi-tasking well enough a few months ago.
