    can't get basic commands to run in console

    I am new to Linux but have Suse 9.3 running on my laptop. Finally got all the hardware workign, but now i'm trying to update some of the software. I can't figure out how to get the kopete update for example to install. when i try to run ./configure it says no such file or directory i've also tried to use apt-get and it says unknown command? am i missing something?
    Desktop: Dual Xeon 2.8 GHz 1.5 GB RAM Ubuntu/XP Pro
    Laptop: Macbook 2 GHz C2Duo 3 GB RAM OS X/ Ubuntu/ XP Pro

    The easiest way to update things in SuSE is to use YaST. There's a program called Yast Online Update that you can run and it will pick up any new versions available through the Novell servers and give you the option of downloading and having it install them for you.
