    Clearing Firefox cache - securely

I use Suse 10 and on occasion it might just have been possible that I might have come upon a dirty picture or 7 on the internet

How do I securely clear my cache so that no one else can look for the deleted files and see what I've been looking at.

Go to Tools->Options->Privacy. Here you can clear your cache, cookies, history, etc. There's also a button at the bottom called "Clear All" that will do all of them at once.

Thanks for that but I had already found that option. What I'm worried about is does that work the same way as in windows ie it doesn't really delete it and the pics just hang about on the hard drive just waiting to be found!

    Help appreciated.

The cache for my Firefox browser (in both MS Windows and Linux) is completely deleted when I do this. I'm not sure why yours isn't.

    bagpuss,

Unless you are trying to keep information hidden from the FBI / CIA, the firefox Privacy menu should meet your needs. There is nothing hanging around afterwards expect perhaps unlinked files which are difficult for anyone but a Linux expert to recover.

If you are using the 1.5 release of Firefox you can set the cleaning up so that it will do it when you close Firefox.

There is an exrension called "x" or paranoia from
    http://clav.me.uk/

which can put a button on the tool bar which will let you clear easily from within Firefox.

No its not that I have anything awful to hide, I just don't want my other half to see the extent of my porn viewing!!

    Thanks all for your help.
