    Soundblaster Live 24 - SUSE 9.3 - no 5.1

first, just lemme apologize in advance for posting on a topic that seems to be a problem for many, and likely has the linux veterans cussin out the noobs, but i have spent too many hours with no luck....

so yah, im a knob, i mean noob in linux, and have spent some time purusing the forum for help with getting my soundcard to gimme 5.1(currently got 2.1 goin)...read them all, but nothing seems to step me thru it for my situation, and trying to piece together all the various info is giving me heart palpitations....i am getting sik of booting into winbloze for my music needs, and want to sort this out...so i am posting what i hope is all the relevant info to get some help...

i have gone thru the alsaconf and mixer...
in the mixer i have the 4 analogs, and the capture maxed out for volume...all the spdifs to 0, and the spdif ou to mute...

incidentally, when i test the volume in yast, it plays system sounds, but only when i am not in xmms...is this relevant???

in yast, the card shows up as configured and running...

i just tried running speaker test in the shell and got nothing???tho i am getting 2.1 with my various audio players(xmms, juk, amarok, etc)...seems strange to me???

anyone gotten this card to operate properly with SUSE 9.3???

the info below i am posting as per the sticky suggestions...any other info u need to help, just lemme know...

also, tho this is the easy way out, can anyone suggest a soundcard for suse9.3 that they just plugged in and got 5.1???tho i would really like to sort this one out if possible for educational purposes, but not sure if it is within the realm of my limited linux capabilities...

cheers, thanks a bunch for your time, id really appreciate any help
    aw

Hi, Donít get excited, I am just a another "noob" with the same problem, well almost. I have the same sound card but with the 7.1 Inspire T7900 Speaker system. and I only got 2.1 as well. But mine is jumpy when playing MP3'3.

I would like to know if this is because my MP3's are on a Microsucks NTFS partition or if there is some setting inside Suse that I can change.

PS I feel your pain, and I am considering starting a support group. Interested in joining?
