Windows XP/SuSe Linux 10.0 RC1 dual boot problem
Hi folks,
I'm having an intermittent (but annoying!) problem with my computer.
I have a system running Suse 10.0 Release Candidate 1 and XP, and this boots using GRUB. Unfortunately, every so often (about 5-6 boots) i get this message:
Chainloader (0,0) + 1
A disk read error occurred
press ctrl +alt +Del to restart
This problem doesnt fix itself unless the computer is powered off - restarting is ineffective. I have done some research and it appears this problem can be caused by the bootloader using an incorrect disk geometry setting or something to that effect.
Note: I recently reinstalled windows but the problem was occurring before I did that, and is occurring since i did it too
if anyone here has experienced this before and could tell me how they fixed it or could otherwise shed some light on the problem I'd be very grateful.

I have been experiencing a similar sort of a problem for the past 9 months, and I am unable to find an answer.
The problem I guess is due to the version of the GRUB.
I get a similar Error message.

I have reinstalled so many times but, Windows doesn't seem to be dual booting with only some particular version of Distros.
If I use some other distro, it tends to work absolutely fine out of the box.
Also, the problem is not biased to SuSE.
So I think it is more of a GRUB version problem.
After an extensive search on Google for such a long period, I also came across some thread saying the problem also occurs due to the Upgrades installed on Windows, which causes problems / conflicts with other Boot Loaders.
Also, can you post the Windows section of your /boot/grub/menu.lst file?
