ok that worked fine. i just went into failsafe and typed:
sax2 -m 0=vesa
then i was able to change my resolution and KDE worked fine. thanks for the help.

Please, I recommend you now backup your working xorg.conf file. It is located under /etc/X11. Save a backup as some other file name, so you can always restore it again, if need be.

And now see if you can find a custom ATI driver that works for you. Vesa is a work around, and not the optimal solution.

There are a number of sites that offer How-To's for this. Not being an ATI user, I don't know which is best. Here are some of the one's I have bookmarked:

lol thanks for all the help. you guys are really user friendly and patient. i'm in the middle of exams right now for high school, but when they are over next week i'm gonna try to get into doing some modifications to my distro. thanks again for all the help

But for my PC with a "Nvidia Geforce4 MX440" still a problem
even the "sax2 -m0=vesa" doesnt work,

I normally propose "sax2 -m 0=vesa" for ATI PC's, where chip 0 is the ATI graphic card. Typically for a nVidia card, one can just type sax2 (with root permissions) using "sax2" with no options. I recommend you:
a. type "sax2 -p" and confirm your nVida is the only graphics on your PC,
b. if your mx440 is chip 1, then you could try "sax2 -m 1=vesa", although I suspect that is not necessary,
c. if you have graphics on both your motherboard and a graphics card, you turn OFF your motherboard graphics in your BIOS,
d. type "man sax2" and familiarize your self with the sax2 execution options.

You could also surf google, doing a "mx440 SuSE-10" search, to see if others have encountered problems with the mx440. ... I have to run off to work, so I can't do this search for you.

I got back my display for "Nvidia Geforce4 MX440"

actually i dont have any onboard graphics, considering the AGP slot as secondary output but still tried "sax2 -m 1=vesa" couldnt resolve the issue

later just a guess "sax2 -m 0=nvidia"

Just installed a new Radeon ATI 256 Video Card in my computer and since have received the following message as it loads up. Eventually my CPU loads up and I can use all application with it and the video card work awesome BUT what makes this message appear?? and How can I fix it??
