is it a PCI (internal) modem? If so, you may need to install a driver.
Have a look at www.linmodems.org .

Use Suse 10.1 and occasionally play with Kubuntu
Also have Windows 98SE and BeOS

I installed Suse Linux 10 into my computer last November and spent more than a week being frustrated at finding a compatible modem. Eventually I was sent to:
http://cdb.novell.com
to do an express search - modems - and found a list a modems that are compatible with Suse Linux 10. I bought a U.S. Robotics model 5686 and it works fine with my computer. I recommend that you seek a listing of the compatible modems for your computer at this website.

A simpler question. Does it really imply that if a model/make is not listed at http://cdb.novell.com, there is no chance of using something you may already have, even is very famous.

Try running these commands and see what shows up:
Code:/usr/sbin/hwinfo --modem /sbin/lspci -v
