Can't run games as normal user [solved]

    Hello!

I have a problem with my nvidia that I can't get hold of. When I try to run different games (for instance tuxracer or bzflag) I have to start them as root, if I try to start them as the normal user the screen just blanks and the music starts and then everything stops. I don't know how to fix this and I don't know what I did to mess it up this way.

Anyone got any tips or tricks?

    My machine:

    PIII 1 GHz, 512 mb
    nvidia geforce 5200
    120 Gb HD
    Suse 10.0

    TIA
    /Ove

Not sure if this is the correct answer but make sure you are a member of the video group. I believe nvidia only allows members of that group (and root) to access 3D hadware

Some distros also require that you be a member of the "games" group.

    Solved!

    Yes!

    That did it!

Changed the membership of the groups and a reeboot. Now the graphics works!

    Thanks a lot!

    Hey Foolse....
I happen to have the same video card as you... I think... GEFORCE FX 5200 AGP... and I was wondering if you got TV out to work on your card. I just bought one, couldn't get it to work, and I have 10 days left to return it.

    Thanks,
    ez

don't mean to be rude, but you should start another topic, or private message the guy
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?
