Converting from DES to Blowfish Encryption

For some reason one of our servers is set to DES encryption for passwords. I've found in yast2 how to change to blowfish. I wonder before I attempt this what the ramifications of this change are. Will the old passwords be converted to Blowfish. Will I have to do another step to convert the existing passwords?

I'm not used to wiz-bang features, coming from a Slackware base, so yast is pretty new to me. (ie: i prefer text files and shell commands)

Well, thanks for the help. To answer my own question, the setting applies to new passwords only. There is no effect (in functionality of the system, or to the password file) immediately after issuing these instructions. Changes are made as passwords are changed.
