Can't Change Permissions on iPod, or New Partitions as Root

I can't change the permissions on my iPod or other media devices as root.

    In command line:

    Code:
    fanfan@eddie:~> su
    Password:
    eddie:/home/fanfan # chown fanfan /media/ipod
chown: changing ownership of `/media/ipod': Operation not permitted
    eddie:/home/fanfan # chown fanfan /media/ipod/Notes/Instructions
chown: changing ownership of `/media/ipod/Notes/Instructions': Operation not permitted
    In Konqueror:
    Code:
    Access denied to /media/ipod
I assume this has to do with the fstab, so here's that:

    Code:
    /dev/hda4	/	reiserfs	acl,user_xattr 1 1
    /dev/hda1	/windows/C	ntfs	users,gid=users,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0
    /dev/hda3	swap	swap	defaults 0 0
    proc	/proc	proc	defaults 0 0
    sysfs	/sys	sysfs	noauto 0 0
    debugfs	/sys/kernel/debug	debugfs	noauto 0 0
    usbfs	/proc/bus/usb	usbfs	noauto 0 0
    devpts	/dev/pts	devpts	mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
    /dev/fd0	/media/floppy	auto	noauto,user,sync 0 0
    /dev/sda2	/media/ipod	vfat	defaults 0 0
    192.168.0.103:/home/fanfan	/media/lappy	nfs	defaults 0 0

    Help Appreciated

There is no problem so complicated that you cannot find a very simple answer to it if you look at it in the right way
