p2p/torrent hangs suse 10/10.1
hello
Has anyone else had problems with running download programs(azureus, amule, etc) in suse 10/10.1.
my problem is that my computer keeps freezing.. totally i have to do a hard boot everytime as i get no response from anything. It always happens when a torrent program or a p2p program is open.. it happens at varied intervals. i've tried changing the program.. for example using ktorrent or bittorent instead of azureus. All ports that need to be open are open. My system should beable to handle these progies: 3.0Ghz intel, 1GB mem, 500 swap, huge harddrives: 180GB 80GB and wireless connection to a fast router.
anyone had the same problems? im confused and frustrated, help me.

Have you checked you logs around the time of the crash? Have a look in /var/logs. There are many things that could have happened - it may be only your desktop environment that has frozen.

hey thanx for the reply
well it is definitely more than just the desktop. everything dies.. no more harddisk activity, also the network totally dies, as a computer that is masqueraded on my linux pc has no more internet or network connection after the freeze.
Also thats just the problem.. there are so many things that could have happened, only i have no idea what i am looking for

okay
ive noticed that thesystem freeze seems to happen when i am not interacting with the computer much. When i am using alot of apllications and multitasking through many apllications, the system doesnt seem to freeze.. weird
however the system never freezes when azureus is not running except sometimes after i have done a hard boot(after azureus has frozen the system), then i get the logon screen and it screeches to a complete halt.

i've watched the memmory usage until system freeze.. nothing special
say 30% applications
90% disk cache
10% free

If you have not updated kdebase3 files suse 10 would hang if you have more than 8 connections at the same time (and torrents usually have more than that). I hope that this is your problem.

yup i had updated it a while ago.. its possible that that effected it in the beggining. i believe i now know what the problem is.. only i have no idea how to fix it.
i am on a wireless network my wireless card is interfaced by ndiswrapper.
for the last 24 hours i've been using another base station that has a stronger signal, it appears that wenever i had fluctutaions in the signal.. that is when the signal was week, the system would freeze, why i dont know.. i cannot find any information anywhere telling me what happened.. the only thing.. the network fell out. it would explain why the computer would sometimes freeze after a hard boot, because the network signal was perhaps still fluctuating.
anyone know any fixes? any ideas..

my goodness.. more than 24 hours and then boing.. it freezes not once twice but three times in a row.. there were no fluctuations in the network connection, i was wrong, again.
im going for memory problems, i have removed one of my 512MB chips if it freezes again i'll swap em, i am hoping its this, as its becoming freeking frustrating and im willing to have it be a memory chip and have it solved than carry on living with it.

i tested the memory by exclusion and had the same problems!
i thought it might have something to do with my swap file not being used, raised the swappiness in /proc/sys/vm and increased and decreased the vfs_cache_pressure. didnt work.
now i think it might be the iptables..
here's the last part of /var/logs/warn after a series of chained crashes:

i had a series (like 5 times after each other) of crashes one after the other, every time having to hard boot, and everytime, a little after azureus started up (it is in the boot autostart directory), it froze. the last time, i closed azureus the moment it started, and stopped the firewall (although, i need it for masquerading) and restarted azureus, now it hasn't crashed for a while. Allthough that says nothing, im allready anticipating the next crash
