    shell not starting up! suse 10.1

    I've been applying the following instructions

    I've got up to ATI drivers. when I reboot the system and select suse 10.1
    I only get the command prompt, asking me for my username and password.
    how do I get the shell back??

    and what is ATI? does it apply to all PC's who want 3d on their desktop?

    I had same problem when i was tryin to fix my openchrome drivers to restore your system you gotta reboot wit suse dvd then select installation and select upgrade and you will get yast screen and you should be able to restore your system

    It only applies if your video card was manufactured by ATI

    So my GUI is not comming up anymore! I've tried using the DVD and going through upgrade. No result!

    What do I do?

    Just log in as root at the command line and do the following commands
    Code:
    init 3
    mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.broken
    sax2
    Sax will then autoconfigure for your hardware. It is a gui configuration tool for your X server (graphics). It should be fine then but just watch out for going to init 3 as you may need to hit enter and log in again.

    What graphics card do you have?

    10.4 in. XGA TFT LCD

    Can I run a 3D desktop on my laptop? how?
