Network Config - 2NIC/DHCP/ Load balancing
Hi all
Looking for an answer to something bugging me here - on Suse Linux 10.
My network is a mixed Linux and Windows net, mostly MS.....I use my Suse box for file serving, video, images, music and so forth. It occurred to me that I'm doing a lot of writing TO the box and serving FROM it at the moment, and so might benefit from having two network cards - to balance the load.
Now, my network assigns its IP addresses using DHCP - and sure enough, both netowrk cards have a (different) address. That's fine. I've disabled the firewall, because having it enabled shut everyrthing down, and so I am relying on the hardware firewall on the network for now.
I can ping both cards, and can see both cards in Network devices, their seperate MAC IDs and so on.
However, only one card seems to be visible across the network.....the other one seems just to be idle. At first, the Linux box was appearing as TWO machines on the network - both with the same NETBIOS name - Linux. Only one was accessible though. Now, only one "Linux" is appearing on the network - and there seems to be no activity on the original card - the newly installe done seems to have taken all the activity.
Can someone point me in the right direction for what I want to achieve please?
Thanks
Secelec
