no sound, video card and internet :(
hey, i just installed linux suse 10.0 and well i cant get internet, it wont detect my geforce 7300gt and i also cant get sound, im workin on sound but its going slowely. ive looked on the nvidia site for the drivers and im not sure which one to pick, ive got the 32bit version of SUSE even though im on a 64bit processor. as for my internet it has detected my 2 ethernet drives slots in the back and how one is plugged in but apart from that im nowhere. i also can only find my motherboard drivers for windows. one of these. This is my first time really using linux so Help!

ok, if you are running the 32bit version you will need to install this one

if you missed the tutorial, here it is http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/sus...iver-suse.html
by the way why not install the 64bit version ? i did not know that you can even install the 32 bit version on a 63 bit processor.Registered Linux user # 395739

i might try the 64 bit, but the 32 bit version works greatly except for those 3 problems. im working on it but i really want internet lol, it detects the 2 ethernet jacks but its not connecting... im going onto a local area network. ive got a usb wireless adapted (TRENDnet TEW-424UB) but ive got no luck
, i know it works cause i can switch to windows and voila, im posting this message now. Any suggestions?

Okay, lets take this one problem at a time. First off, install the nvidia driver like recommended by geese. This will get you going graphically. If you have problems with the nvidia drivers, launch sax (as root) from the command line and configure xorg from there.
Sound - open Yast (under the system menu somewhere in KDE) or type yast at the command prompt to get Yast open. In there under Hardware is a Sound module. Open that and try to configure your sound card.
As for the networking, in Yast, go to Network Devices and configure your network cards in there.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific (as I haven't used Suse in a while) but this should give you a start.

ok, i got the nvidia drivers installed after i figured out some cmd prompt commands. the internet i got is detecting the card, and i set it to auto configure and that didnt work, so i tried to manually and that didnt work again. im going to try and get the wireless going but the sound is also a no go aswell. its not detecting the onboard and i cant find it when selecting the type from the list. The integrated sound is made by Realtek ALC883 if that is any help.

Let's try setting up the sound the 'traditional' way. First, as root, run 'alsaconf'. Then, set up your sound card (assuming it was detected) by going through the subsequent steps. Second, run 'alsamixer' and turn up all the volumes (the ones with MM at the bottom are muted - push M to unmute them). Lastly, run 'alsactl store'.
Hope that helps.
