    I know of a gnome ip messenger, try googling for it.

    I tried that , it doesnt quite work aaas well as the one I have in windows.
    I tried using wine but that to has some problems because i have to manually add all ip addresses when it is supposed to detect automatically on the network , moreover people cannot send me any messages unless its a reply to a message i send them

    Sorry, I can't really help you, I've never used any of these programs before. Email usually does the job for me
    (or IM, you can settup something like a jabber server for your network).
