In need of linux help and advice

Hello linux lovers. I am a huge linux noob. I've never actually been on a computer running linux but it appeals to me. So, I have decided to install SUSE 10.1 with the 5 cds. First question, each cd seems to have 2 files SUSE-Linux-10.1-Remastered-x86_64-CD1, and the other one, SUSE-Linux-10.1-Remastered-x86_64-CD1.iso.part. Do I put both of these on a cd? Any other advice you may have towards SUSE would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

i would hazard a guess that the .part files are the temporary files created by your download manager.

Are you currently downloading the CDs?

I agree. This really looks like either you are still downloading the files, or the download did not complete successfully.

The reason we think this is that, when you start downloading something the download manager normally makes two files -- one with the same filename as the thing you are downloading, and the other with the exact same name but with ".part" on the end.

Also, it looks like you are downloading the 64bit version of SUSE. You should only do this if you have a 64bit machine. In fact, some people would advise you to only download the 64bit version if you really really need to take advantage of the 64bit processor. 32bit linux should work just as well on a 64bit machine.

Also, for 64-bit distros, I don't think (and I could be wrong here) that some programs have 64-bit equivalents. This is usually for closed-source programs like flash and java.

Don't worry, we have all been there. Have your part files disappeared? I usually get those when I download large files but they go away after the file is done.
