    Unhappy NIC Problem

Hi, I just installed Suze 10.1 with dual Windows boot. Everything works well, except that I couldn't access the internet.

Uing YaST, I tried both DHCP and static IP. Neither worked. I also used netstat to dump some stats. It showed that my ethernet card was able to receive packets ok, but there was no successfully transmitted packets (there were some dicarded Tx packets).

The Ethernet interface indicator on the right bottom of the screen indicates that the interface is operational. Also, Windows is able to access the internet without any problem.

I have a MSI K9N SLI Platinum mother board, which uses Nvidia nForce chipset.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks...

i am having the same problem, i found a driver for the nvidia chipsets here : http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html but it still isnt working for me.

i run xp on an emachine with an nvidia chipset and my onboard ethernet works fine, i installed suse 10.1 and tried updating the nvidia driver but it still wont connect to my gateway. loopbacks work, and suse says that i am connected to my wired network but i cant get to the gateway regardles of static ip or dhcp (dhcp cant get an ip assigned, again cant get to the gateway) the only thing left i can think of is the driver came with a c file named forcedeth.c and i think its to replace some other file, but i cant find any files by that name in suse.

sorry if im missing something simple, to anyone that can help us. and if i find a solution ill post it here for you

i got my ethernet card working by replacing the forcedeth.ko file with forcedeth.c in the /lib/modules/2.16.13-15-default/kernel/drivers/net/ directory then deleting forcedeth.ko from the directory and renaming forcedeth.c to forcedeth.ko and restarting the system... i hope that makes sense to you and i hope it works for you

and i used these files from nvidia instead of the ones i said before

    Hi Acorelis,

    Thanks for your comments!

As you suggested, I replaced the foriginally-installed orcedeth.ko file with the forcedeth.c file downloaded from the nVadia website, and renamed the downloaded .c to .ko. Unfortunately, after I restarted the suse, I still couldn't get the NIC to work. In fact, the interface indicator now becomes "No network connection".

I also tried to replace the original forcedeth.ko file with the forcedeth.ko file downloaded from the nVadia, and get the same result.

Btw, my processor is AMD 64 AM2.
