Hi there

I hope somebody can help me with that. I have a SUSE 10.1 for about a long time. I use it as a firewall, mail-, web- and an ftp-server (many other purposes as well). The server runs for 365/24/7 for almost 3 years now. It has an external (eth1) and an internal (eth0) network interface and connects to the internet via eth1 via a cablemodem. I've never experienced any serious problems with the server so far. 3 weeks ago eth1 has suddenly lost its IP for no good reason. A restart of the network did not do the trick to get a new IP, so I had to reboot the cablemodem. Now this happens almost daily and since I have to be at home to reboot the modem, this is pretty annoying!! Here is some log entries I don't really understand:

--snip
Oct 22 16:50:16 foxnet kernel: eth0: Setting promiscuous mode.
Oct 22 16:50:16 foxnet kernel: eth0: Setting promiscuous mode.
Oct 22 16:50:16 foxnet kernel: eth0: Setting promiscuous mode.
Oct 22 16:50:17 foxnet kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:09.0[A] -> Link [LNKC] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11
Oct 22 16:50:17 foxnet kernel: eth0: Setting promiscuous mode.
Oct 22 16:50:17 foxnet kernel: eth0: Setting promiscuous mode.
Oct 22 16:50:17 foxnet kernel: eth0: Setting promiscuous mode.
Oct 22 16:50:17 foxnet kernel: eth0: Setting promiscuous mode.
--snip

eth1 is irq11 and eth0 equals irq10 by the way.

Does anybody know what those log entries mean? Does eth1 have a defect and has to be replaced or does the cablemodem cause this problem?

Thanks for any tips!
