    Samba and firewall SLED 10

I'm trying to set up a network with one SLED 10 pc as file and cups server. Problem is that I have to turn off the firewall completly to make this work.

I have opened the firewall to samba, actually I have opened it for most of the services.. I doesn't help. Can't find any network computers as long as the firewall is up - help.

Offcourse this only works the wrong way since the server can see the other computers on my network, but they can't see the server...??

    I need some bright ideas...

Did you configure the proper workgroup or domain membership? Once you enable the Samba server in YaST/Firewall Settings that is all that is needed for your SuSE machine to be reachable from the network. With that aside, your issue is probably a Samba issue.

That is how simple it used to be - They have removed Samba server config option from yast - or maybe it never was there...?? I've been using Mandriva for a long time.. sometimes I mix them up..?

Anyway, I have setup a DNS and hostname.. I think..

I found something calld yast - samba server configuration and I'm going to install it, sounds like the right thing.. Or maybe I shall enter KDE and configure samba from there..

    personally, I prefer SWAT.
you can enable this in xinetd config from yast.

I find the config in swat nicer than from the yast module.

quite aside from that, why would you be blocking the ports on a trusted network? try binding samba to the internal network interface, everything should be open then.

    regards
