asks for user/pass but no users configured or exist
I have installed suse 10.1 three times now, tonight was my third. I have been learning about multi-booting, partitioning, bootloaders etc. and wanted to learn how to do a multi-boot with suse and win xp.
I did everything the same as i had the previous two times except:
I made a new partition hda2 for "/"
I made a new partition hdb2 for swap
I installed GRUB in MBR to load linux (default) and win xp
I installed GNOME, not KDE (kde is nice, but had never tried gnome before)
I used english UK (cause it's spelled colour not color)
I removed packages like bluetooth (don't use) printers (don't own) scanners, adobe acrobat reader etc because I don't need/use/have any of those things. All the dependencies were resolved successfully.
When I finish the install and reboot the system it says 'init_root' could not be found: retry, quit, skip in green background with white text (it may have been inst_root because google corrected my search). I had never seen that before. Then it totally skipped the root user configuration screen , and the regular user configuration screen. Next it asked me to log into the system! Obviously this was impossible as no user exists.
I rebooted from the installDVD again and chose "update". Then i added a particular YAST package that seemed to resolve the problem. It was called something like yast-usermanager. The description said something like configuring the root and regular users. For some strange reason it hadn't installed automatically the first time, so i added it. The system installed the package, but the problem remains.
I don't know linux well enough to remedy the problem. Aside from reinstalling the whole OS again, I'd like to know how to solve this problem, in case anything else like it comes up again.
What should i do?
