New installation can't access network (Realtek RTL-8029(AS))
This is my first go installing Linux (Suse 10.1). Although I used M$ Xenix 20-odd years ago, I rate myself as a noob here.
YaST has detected that I have the network card, but I cannot access the network. I have disabled IPv6, and System | Network | Network tools usually shows just a loopback interface. I have seen it show eth0 once, but not at the moment. Even when it did, there had been no packets sent or received (but there are on the loopback). I have tried both DHCP (I have a Netgear router) and a fixed IP address.
I have read on an old thread here that (Redhat) Linux should be using an NE2000 driver. Is this still correct? How do I know if it is using this driver?
ifconfig is currently showing only the loopback. I was going to post the output, but I have discovered I can't mount my floppy, so I am running out of options for transferring data.
Any ideas?
