wireless connection with SuSE 10.1 ...
howdy
well, after many posts trying to get my head round partitioning, i quite comfortable managed to set up a dual boot of windows XP and SuSE 10.1 - it was much easier than i thought it would be
however, i now have a much simpler problem: i cant seem to connect to the internet on SuSE (but can on windows).
i am using an x-micro XWL-11BUZX USB adapter, which i know SuSE has detected as it is the 'network cards' bit in YAST.
i have also installed ndiswrapper, which is working, as i installed this driver with it: 'zd1201' - which, i actually think is installed already with the kernel, but i installed it anyway. this i guess explain why i have this conflict:
"zd1201u, driver installed, hardware (OACE:1201) present, (alternative driver: conflict)"
i cant ping to my router either.
rreally, really am stuck and havent a clue what i need to do to get this up and running, have been trying to do it since last night ...
help much appreciated!

hi - im at work atm, so cant print out the exact output of iw/ifconfig ... but from what i remember:

so it is being detected. however, after changing the config of it many times, trying to use ndiswrapper, it still doesnt work.
after looking at 'dmesg', there was a line saying that the zd1201u driver could not load its firmware, and after finding the firmware for the driver on the net, i ran make and it attempted to install into an invalid directory (/etc/firmware, and /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware, neither of which exist. i created these dirs, but still no luck)
i have tried de-installing SUSE, re-installing it, uninstalling ndiswrapper, re-installing ndiswrapper, ran modprobe and all the other commands in order - and still nothing.
from running iw/ifconfig:
iwconfig returned something like:
lo: no wireless extensions.
??: no wireless extensions.
??: no wireless extensions.
ifconfig only had eth0 and eth1 listed, the latter being 127.0.0.1, the first the intel LAN controller thing (havent a clue what that is, btw) - no wlan0 was listed.
this is really, really getting me down now. everything else about SUSE is fine and great - its easy to use
just this last internet connection issue, something which i didnt expect to take me so long to figure out how to do ...
it has crossed my mind that it may just be that that particular USB adapter/driver combo is not very well supported, and it may be easier to just buy a different adapter ... but i would like to be able to get to the bottom of this issue for my own sanity and satisfaction ...
help ...
